This course provides a basic understanding of the phenomena of electromagnetic transients in power systems caused by lightning and switching. It discusses the generation and propagation of these transients in the electrical network, including the effects of imperfect earth. It analyzes the behavior of power apparatus under the electromagnetic transients. It also provides information on techniques to protect apparatus and systems against the electrical transients.
